Thanks, Dad. - from the author
As usual with Mr. Potchak's writing, this story smoothly and brilliantly takes us back almost four decades ago to a time when a father's gentle wisdom steered his children in the right direction with subtle, yet vivid, imagery. Wonderful story, wonderful lesson. We can all benefit from listening to and heeding the words of a wise man like this good father. Thanks for sharing this great example of life, Dave!
Well done, Dave. There's a lot to be said for that "old school" style of educating. Dan
Reminds me of my dad. I didn't appreciate those methods until I was much older and on my own. Well done.
Wonderful article, Dave. So many young people don't realize what they are missing if they pass up the opportunity to acheive that college degree. Life is tough and getting tougher, I wish fewer kids would not have to learn that the hard way. Sandra.
This was really good. I really liked the way you presented this and it kept my attention the entire time. You did have a wise father and loved the way he handled this.
This article is very powerful you know that....... I think your dad was very smart in giving you a outlook into the future you were going to have if you quit college. Probably at the same time that he was talking to you at the supper table, he was praying in the back of his mind that you do not quit college and end up working at a job, for the rest of your working days, till retirement that you hated............just like he did. Don't get me wrong, Maybe he didn't dislike working at the mill. But from the past 19 years I put in at a mill, I so wish I had of went to college to be what I was born to be.
